Turkey Travel with Toddlers: Our Long Weekend Adventure (2026)

A Family Getaway: Was a Turkish Weekend Worth It?

As a parent of two energetic toddlers, the idea of a long weekend in Turkey might seem like a daunting prospect. But, as I discovered, a trip to this vibrant country can be a refreshing escape, offering a unique blend of relaxation and adventure. So, was it worth it? Let's explore.

The Journey: A Smooth Start

The flight was surprisingly manageable. An early departure from Gatwick meant we avoided the rush, and the new security scanners made the process a breeze. My two-year-old, usually a challenge during travel, was surprisingly well-behaved. The four-year-old, on the other hand, was a bundle of energy, but we managed to keep everyone entertained. The clean, efficient airport in Dalaman was a welcome surprise, and we were soon on our way to our hotel, XO Cape Arnna.

Choosing the Right Spot: A Parent's Perspective

In the chaos of parenthood, it's easy to forget to take care of yourself. So, for this trip, I chose an all-inclusive resort with plenty to keep the kids entertained. The views and setting were breathtaking, and the resort offered everything from chips and ketchup to a waterpark and splash pad. The hidden Flamingo Beach was a particular favorite, with its calm waters and toddler-friendly play area.

Kid-Friendly Fun: More Than Just Chips and Ketchup

The resort's kids' club was impressive, with a soft play area and even a vlogging room. However, I found it a little disappointing that there was very little supervision. The resort did cater to children, but it also provided plenty for adults, including an adults-only area, a well-equipped gym, and a spa. The buffet restaurant offered a wide range of options, while the a la carte restaurants had a more adult vibe.

Cheating the Time Difference: A Parent's Trick

One of the challenges of traveling with young children is dealing with time zones. In Turkey, the a la carte restaurants didn't open until 7 pm, which would usually be a deal-breaker. But, thanks to the time difference, we were able to keep the kids on British time. This meant that dinner was at a more reasonable hour, and we could still enjoy a healthy breakfast before the kids woke up.

The Verdict: A Refreshing Escape

Despite my initial doubts, the trip to Turkey was a refreshing escape. The all-inclusive resort provided a perfect blend of relaxation and adventure, and the time difference meant we could enjoy a more normal routine. While it was a short trip, it gave us a much-needed mental break from daily life. So, was it worth it? Absolutely.

Planning Your Own Escape

If you're considering a similar trip, remember to choose your hotel wisely. An all-inclusive resort with plenty to do can be a great option, especially for families. And, if you're traveling with young children, don't forget to take advantage of the time difference to make the most of your trip. In my opinion, a long weekend in Turkey is a perfect way to recharge and reconnect with your family.
